And here’s to the ones who celebrate them.

From the first smooth slide into the mouth, to the molten impact of pure cacao sweetness that spreads on the tongue—the experience of eating chocolate is singular in the blissful satisfaction that it brings. Now, a chocolate connoisseur tells us that it is entirely possible to elevate this sweet experience into high art.

Chef Anthony Collar, Makati Shangri-La’s executive pastry chef and chocolatier, reveals that when eaten correctly, one can correctly appreciate the layers of flavor and nuances of chocolate. “Eating chocolate is easy,” Chef Collar explains, “But savoring chocolate is much like enjoying fine wine.”

No quick bites and gulps here. The trick to letting the chocolate flavors blossom in the mouth is to stop, slow down, and savor. But doing so, not only is the taste enhanced, but the entire experience of eating stretches the pleasure into sheer luxury. Chef Collar gives us easy tips on how to transform chocolate eating into a moment of pure indulgence:

To begin, warm the chocolate between the palms of your hands. Do not use your teeth to bite it; let it break on your lips before sliding it towards your tongue. Let the chocolate rest on the tongue, relishing the flavors that seep and spread.

The next time you take a moment to escape from the daily grind, try these easy tips on your favorite Belgian chocolate ice cream bar; transform an ordinary break into a moment of sheer indulgent pleasure.

The ability to see the extraordinary in the everyday is a rare talent. Top Malaysian artist Hong Yi, known for her astonishing pieces of art that recreate known objects or people using unexpected materials, pushed herself to see something more than the usual: she recently finished a month-long project of “food paintings,” creating different artworks everyday for 31 days, using food materials on a ceramic plate.

The results range from the delicate and ethereal to the whimsical and humorous, but all are smartly executed and thoughtful: goldfish swimming lazily in a pond, made out of pickled ginger and century eggs; a startled owl made out of chopped red onions; a hen and her chick pecking quietly on the grass, made from carefully cracked eggshell pieces. Her project was faithfully recorded on her personal blog, as well as on Instagram, which to date has amassed more than 57,000 followers.

The young artist has been gaining popularity in Malaysia for quite some time, having projects for Esquire Malaysia, and HP. Her body of work spans from huge installation pieces to small personal projects, but one thing remains the same: her ability to re-vision ordinary materials into beautiful works of art.

Inspired by our latest flavor Chocolate and Strawberry, we scoured the web for other intriguing combinations of flavors: Enter these bacon & jam sandwiches made by blogger Alexandra over at alexandracooks.com.

It’s the ultimate marriage of sweet and salty that creates a most unexpected sensory delight. Salt dramatically boosts the activity of taste receptors, and makes it easier for you to detect the sweet components of your dish. This is why these bacon and jam sandwiches are a must-try for gourmands. Alexandra suggests you add cheddar to your sandwich, but brie or goat cheese work just as well.

Why not try them all? It’s time to be more open to culinary adventures

URBN Bar and Kitchen quickly became one of Manila’s hottest nightspots soon after it opened last December 2012.

Known for always having great music, the club kicks off with Almost Famous Mondays and turns up the heat with Warehouse Wednesdays. With a different DJ spinning each night, the party continues throughout the week with Turbulent Thursdays, Friday Night Rush, and Saturscape.

URBN is also a great foodie find for the all-partied-out or even the pickiest eaters. With Sydney-trained Chef Benjo Tuason as king of the kitchen, the food here is far from your ordinary bar chow. Seared Scallops with Cauliflower Puree and Australian Rack of Lamb make for satisfying entrees, while their Mac and Choreese (chorizo and cheese) is comfort-food with a twist. Diners also love the freshly-made truffle potato chips, and go gaga over the Salted Caramel Cheesecake.

With its outstanding food, superb sounds, and spacious, well-appointed spaces, URBN Bar and Kitchen is the ideal events place. Magnum selected URBN as the venue of choice for the launch of the Magnum Chocolatier Collection and though that party is now over, the Magnum ambassadors continue to be spotted on URBN’s dance floor, taking pleasure from the best that city life has to offer.

In a decadent event last February 19, Magnum introduced the gorgeous Georgina Wilson as its newest brand ambassador. URBN in Fort Strip, BGC, was turned into a chocolate paradise where the press and fellow brand ambassadors welcomed Georgina to the prestigious Magnum lineup.

It’s been a few years since the 27-year-old model first made it to the spotlight, yet she continues to reign as one of Manila’s loveliest faces both on and off the catwalk. “It’s a natural fit,” she said of her tie-up with Magnum. We couldn’t agree more.

Her thick locks and doll-like eyes may lead many to believe that she’s just another pretty face but “George” proves them dead-wrong. The Filipino-British mestiza has been a consistent honor student since high school, and graduated from the University of Sydney with degrees in both accounting and finance. George is beauty and brains in a sexy, 25-inch waist package – don’t you forget it.

For someone as busy and as hard a worker as she is, George likes to treat herself: a new pair of shoes, the latest designer purse, a fun getaway with friends. Yet for the self-confessed dessert addict, her absolute guilty pleasure is ice cream. Indeed, Georgina Wilson is a perfect ambassador for Magnum as she finds pleasure in the luxuries that life has to offer her.

Azealia Banks to party in Manila with Magnum

Rolling Stone hails her as “arguably the most agile female singer-rapper since Missy Elliott”. Azealia Banks, aka Yung Rapunxel, is taking her mermaid hair, deep purple lips, and thumping beats to Manila. Magnum has pulled all the stops to have Azealia perform at an exclusive party for Manila’s finest. This one-night only event is to be the highlight of the biggest party of 2013!

The 21-year-old rapper built her success on a passion for what she does and who she is. After releasing her debut recording online in 2009, she immediately signed with record label XL Records. Any fledgling artist would have been thrilled to have representation from a big company but when artistic differences arose with her producer, Azealia decided to go on her own rather than compromise her music.

Despite the lack of a recording contract, Azealia continued to work on demo tracks and made do with uploading her songs to YouTube. Her debut single “212” was released as free, downloadable content from her website, and the track became a hit in European music charts. The song’s popularity attracted the notice of British producer Paul Epworth, and their collaboration on “Bambi” was played for the catwalk at a Mugler fashion show in Paris. Following the 2012 release of her Fantasea mixtape, Azealia is currently working on her first studio album, Broke With Expensive Taste.

She has Lady Gaga’s creative director fussing over her, and MAC Cosmetics recently came out with a limited-edition lip color named after her alter ego.

As with her music, the young artist stays true to her no-nonsense personality. She explains in an interview, “Yung Rapunxel is that girl who pisses people off but doesn’t really mean to. She’s actually a sweetheart! But people are so taken aback that she’s so herself; she’s not even trying to be unique or different. She literally just lives in her head; she does what she wants to do. [She is] someone who is happy to be [her]self.”

Tao Philippines

Sometimes, true pleasure is stripping yourself of all the trappings of modern living. Consider Tao Philippines, a local tour that invites you to explore the cluster of tiny islands between El Nido and Coron, Palawan. No itinerary, no plans. Just you, the sea, and idle, idle time.
